If there were an Emmy for recreating superb hospitality from a by-gone era, then Cadie Camp, owner of The Old Powder House Inn would surely be a winner! As soon as we arrived, we felt the warmth and thoughtfulness of Cadie’s hospitality. From the ice coffee served on arrival on a warm St. Augustine afternoon, to the Turkish towels and robes in the spotless, charmingly decorated room, to the freshly baked cookies and brownies in the parlor, to the carafes of brandy and cabernet set out, the hospitality welcomes guests warmly to The Old Powder House Inn. And then there are Cadie’s delicious breakfasts, prepared each morning in the full kitchen and served with linen napkins on antique china plates from Cadie’s family collection. Not only all of this, but when we had difficulty finding the Inn, (I don’t use GPS) Cadie stood outside on the street with her phone and guided us right up to the front porch!
The Inn exudes the vintage comfort of the last century and more, as its history goes back to 1901, when the present house, a large turn-of-the-19th century bungalow with huge, welcoming porches and a garden patio, was moved to the site of an ancient ammunition storage, or “powder house,” of St. Augustine’s Spanish colonial era. Later a rooming house, the Inn continues to exude an aura of the 1920s and ‘30s, although now refurbished and equipped with new bathrooms, air conditioning, even “white noise” players.
The Old Powder House Inn’s quiet location a few blocks west of the St. John’s River basin is ideal for visitors who want to leave their car parked in the Inn’s back lot and explore the historic district of St. Augustine on foot, or via the many open-air tour trains and lorries in operation. Most of the Historic District’s restaurants, shops, and museums are within a short stroll of the Inn.
In short, we highly recommend The Old Powder House for a delightful stay of any length in Old St. Augustine, and even if we can’t give Cadie an Emmy for her hospitality, we can award her five stars for best Bed and Breakfast in St. Augustine!

My husband and I honeymooned here, and it was such a wonderful experience! The staff was easy to reach by phone and so accommodating with a flexible check-in. The room was the perfect romantic backdrop with gorgeous bedding, a deep Jacuzzi tub, and comfy robes. We are so excited to come back here in years to come on our anniversary!

We stayed one night at The Old Powder House Inn as a halfway point for our drive further south. The first thing that drew me to the Inn was that it had on-site parking, a BIG plus in a city like St. Augustine where parking is very difficult and expensive. We parked and didn't move the car until we were ready to leave, that's how conveniently located the Inn is to virtually everything you want to see and do in the city. Since it's an historical location, it is understood the structure is older, but all the modern amenities are here. The owners take great pride in their business and it shows. There isn't always a staffer on site which was a bit concerning to us as when we returned from dinner, our room had no power, and it was just our room. There was a phone number in the room to text if there was a problem, within 60 seconds of me sending the text one of the owners was calling me and giving me step by step directions to the utility closet to reset the breaker. Breakfast was delicious and everyone was wonderfully sweet and helpful. I would absolutely stay here again and recommend checking this Inn out if you are visiting the nations oldest continuously occupied city.
